Advice for blondes

Whether you’re naturally blonde or have highlights, bleach or balayage, here’s what you need to know before colouring.

Blonde lengths? Let's talk roots.

If you have blonde highlights, bleach or balayage, Done can help cover grey regrowth between salon appointments by creating a root smudge - a deeper root colour that blends with your natural base while keeping your blonde lengths. It’s a way to soften the contrast of grey regrowth and keep your colour looking maintained while you wait for your next appointment.

Grey coverage with a natural finish.

Done won’t recreate your highlights or give roots the same ultra-light blonde finish as your bleached lengths. Expect a slightly deeper root with blonde through the lengths, rather than blonde from root to tip. This can mimic hair’s natural gradient - deeper at the roots and lighter through the lengths for a soft, dimensional look.

Match to your roots, not your lighter ends.

Look at the naturally coloured hairs growing alongside your greys. Your shade needs to suit this starting colour at the base of your roots - that may mean choosing light brown even if your lengths and ends are blonde. Choosing a blonde shade that’s too light for your natural regrowth can expose warmth and give a brassy result. Only apply colour to new regrowth, avoiding your lightened lengths.

Want your roots as light as your highlights?

For that ultra-light blonde finish from root to tip, leave the lightening to your salon colourist. Done can help cover grey regrowth between appointments, but it won’t replace your bleach or highlights service.
